Madeline and Brett made me fall completely in love with New York. This is a big deal because big cities are not usually my thing, and can be pretty overwhelming to me. The only experience with NYC is a high school trip for orchestra and watching Gossip Girl. The idea of getting into a taxi by myself to get to their place was daunting enough, but way easier than I thought, and I loved looking out the window at everything we passed by. There's something about this city that feels bigger than all of us- it kind of hugs you with its grandeur and history and beautiful old buildings. It sounds weird but makes sense in my head. Never-mind the fact that on a perfectly overcast day in Autumn, it's one of the most beautiful cities you could be in.
We explored some beautiful spots in Central Park, then headed over the bridge to the waterfront in Brooklyn. Talk about a view! We completely lucked out by finding an adorable little garden/tiny park with blooming flowers and a fluffy cat (!!). As we waited for sunset to come, we took a break and had some happy hour oysters and drinks at an adorable restaurant (Atrium) that we had to ourselves almost.
Then we watched the sky go from grey to vivid orange and reds and pinks as the lights of the buildings came on, and it was the second best thing that ended our evening. The first best thing was the pizza at Julianas and icecream at Morgenstern's afterwards. Great, now I'm hungry.
